P. 5

In recent years, we have witnessed waves of forced displacement all over the world. Today,
more than 65 million people are uprooted by war, violence, and persecution.

Women and girls make up half of this number. On top of losing everything and witnessing
atrocities such as the death of family members, women and girls are also confronted with
gender-based violence; the ordinary task of collecting water is fraught with risk of rape or
              other abuse.

Despite these obstacles and against all odds, displaced women are doing their utmost to
build their lives and to live with dignity.

Through this exhibition, we invite you to connect with the story of some of these women

engagement with other displaced people and to give them the support and the warmth
              they need.

At the end of the journey, we invite you to pay tribute to the strength of these women and

This exhibition is co-organised by the European Commission’s Directorate General
for European Civil Protection and Humanitarian Aid Operations, who is currently
